It is easy to stay regular when you are in your home town. You would be going for your usual walks, trips to the gym on the designated days and so forth. If you are a fitness freak or simply trying to keep down the weight as per a health schedule fixed by your doctor, you will find it easier when you develop a routine.

When changes come such as when travelling to a new place, sticking to such a routine may become difficult. A break of one or two days from workouts and your usual regime might not harm your health that much, it is important to find a way to stick to your workout plan even when you are travelling.

If you wish to stay healthy even if you are not pumping iron at the gym every day, you might be concerned about your health and about putting on excess weight when travelling.

Here are some tips

• Stay active no matter where you are

When travelling we tend to be sitting at one place for long hours. Try to curb that by taking laps around the airport if you have a long layover. Walk around the towns you visit that will give you a chance to explore the local places. No matter where you are, try and walk to explore and stay fit. You can jog down beaches, hire a bicycle and go cycling or simply walk around streets. If your hotel has a gym, you can easily find time to work out as you would back at home.

• Watch what you eat

You might be tempted to try exotic and local food that you have never tasted before. Try and stick to healthy ingredients and food that is cooked fresh. Avoid stale food and junk food from fast food joints. Even if you must, supplement other meals by consuming fruits, opting for green tea or simply water to flush away the toxins and unhealthy fats consumed.

• Try yoga and stretching exercises

Breathing exercises, stretches and other yogic postures can be practiced during long flights to ease the stiffness of muscles and keep you feeling relaxed and fit even in cramped places.

Tips for those who are fitness enthusiasts

If you are one of those people who need to take a mile long run every day or need to pump iron at the gym, you can find alternatives in the following manner.

• Plan your day schedule and explore your options. If you are into aerobic exercise, you can try the gym in your hotel or take a run around a new neighborhood. Practice your stretches and other free hand exercises in your hotel room if you have no other option.

• If you can swim, walk by the beach or cycle, use these alternatives in place of your usual aerobic exercise routine to stay in shape.

• If you are worried about your muscles loosening out as you travel, there are three basic exercises sets that you can do under any circumstance to keep up those muscles. Combine push-ups, lunges and squats, pull ups or chin ups to complete your exercise no matter where you are.

• Find a sturdy rod or use your suitcase or water bottles to substitute as weights as you do dumbbell rows for your arms.

• Make your food choices accordingly. The days you work out, go big on protein and wholesome fats while the other days go lean by including more of fluids, fruits and veggies.

Thus, if you are opting for Turkey visa this summer, no matter what your travel itinerary is, you can stay in shape and bring in variety in your life.
